The National Federation of Women's Institute

Inspiring women - then and now

The WI is a unique organisation shaped by its members. In 1915, we set out to give women a voice and to be a force for good in the community. Since then, our members and our ambitions alike have grown tremendously. Today, we are the largest women's organisation in the UK and we pride ourselves on being a trusted place for all women of all generations, to share experiences and learn from each other. A WI membership offers the opportunity to meet women in your local area in-person and virtually, to make friends and make a difference in your community. We campaign nationally on a wide range of issues and provide life-long learning and self-development opportunities for women in England and Wales.

The Middlesex Federation

Since it was formed in 1915, the WI has operated as a charitable organisation and individual members have taken an active part in society. With a strong, sometimes outspoken, campaigning focus to provide women with a voice, with education and useful skills there's lot of opportunities for every women to find something they're interested in.

Middlesex Federation was formed in April 1921 and is home to 44 WIs, each of which holds monthly meetings on a wide variety of topics and will be involved in other activities which could include craft groups, campaigning, walking, book clubs - in fact almost anything the members want!

Each individual WI is a local charity, the Middlesex Federation of WIs or MFWI is the umbrella organisation that co-ordinates some activities and provides an additional link to the national organisation. This site aims to inform and inspire you to get involved in a way that suits you.
